Amazon Rank
ETA: NY Times article about Amazon pulling dirty tricks on publishers.
oh amazon ...
Apr. 12th, 2009 09:49 pmApparently Amazon.com has started stripping sales rankings from LGBT books. This is the explanation they gave writer Mark R. Probst:
In consideration of our entire customer base, we exclude "adult" material from appearing in some searches and best seller lists. Since these lists are generated using sales ranks, adult materials must also be excluded from that feature.
A statement that might have been a little less ludicrous if this exclusion had not so specifically targeted LGBT books while books with similar but heterosexual content still have their rankings.
Also, if it isn't already clear where I'm going with this, what the fucking fuck, Amazon.com? I do not appreciate being told what is and what is not appropriate reading.

nobel prize (update)
Oct. 10th, 2008 07:14 pmSo apparently nobody but me were mystified about the literature prize winner. All around there has been nodding and people saying things like "oh, yes, and it's about time too." Even the betting-places had him on their list.
And interestingly, the day before the announcement Le Clézio's odds started to even out rapidly. Do we perhaps have a tiny leak in the super sekrit Academy?
