This SOPA/PIPA thing happening in America right now is fucking up my zen. It's making a mess on the floor of everybody's virtual living room. Everybody in the whole goddamn world. Also, it irks me that some oblivious politicians boasting their ignorance about the Internet to anyone who will listen should have any say in the matter. Dicks.

Burn in hell, Fox News. Your Islamophobia and blatant lies are disgusting and embarrassing.

I wonder how many international laws Greece is breaking right now by forcibly keeping the Ships to Gaza flotilla in its ports. Greece has absolutely no jurisdiction over these boats and everybody knows it. Some of the people aboard are my own countrymen, and my piss-poor excuse for a government does absolutely nothing to protect their democratic right to express their political beliefs or their right to leave when they damn well please.

About the goddamn Eyjafjallajökull erupting. I didn't feel anything like this a couple of years ago when the global financial system almost collapsed around our heads. Things still seemed to be somewhat under control, then. But this? How the fuck do you control a volcano? And what happens if Katla also erupts?

I think I might be having an existential crisis over this whole thing. It's not like me at all.

Apparently Amazon.com has started stripping sales rankings from LGBT books. This is the explanation they gave writer Mark R. Probst:

In consideration of our entire customer base, we exclude "adult" material from appearing in some searches and best seller listsSince these lists are generated using sales ranks, adult materials must also be excluded from that feature.

A statement that might have been a little less ludicrous if this exclusion had not so specifically targeted LGBT books while books with similar but heterosexual content still have their rankings.

Also, if it isn't already clear where I'm going with this, what the fucking fuck, Amazon.com? I do not appreciate being told what is and what is not appropriate reading.

Learned about this here at [info]copperbadge.

I swear, this nearly gave me a fucking aneurysm. Excommunicating the girl's mother? Really? But not the raping bastard of a stepfather?

And then the Vatican, predictably, defended the excommunication. Honestly, if my opinion of this institution sank any lower it would fall through the floor and end up someplace significantly warmer.

By now the Vatican has so overwhelmingly demonstrated that it should have no influence whatsoever over the lives of women and children that it's not even funny.

Yes, boys and girls, the RaceFail '09 debacle is still going on!

I stumbled on this thing in January, not long after it started, but then for various reasons didn't pay attention to how it developed. Now, after having checked in again at [personal profile] rydra_wong's journal, I discover that it's partly deteriorated into a thing about pseudonyms vs real names, with one side basically liking those of us using pseudonyms online to criminals (!). With actual legal threats thrown in for added fun.

I don't even know what to say to this. People seem to have completely lost their minds.

I'm starting to think my strange neighbour has some sort of strange-person crush on me. Whenever I do laundry in the laundry room odds are she'll also be there. She keeps staring at me and standing too close and asking me questions, mostly about a friend of mine that used to be another neighbour. But she never seems to remember what I tell her. I think she's asked the same questions about my friend three times by now.

This woman is married with at least four children - one of which threw a small rock at me once when I said I couldn't talk to him anymore because I had to go to work.

The whole thing is starting to freak me the hell out.

Italian writer Roberto Saviano, who lives in hiding after death threats from the Naples mafia, recently had to leave Italy - even though it's possible this won't help improve his safety.

I wish there was a way for ordinary people to show the Camorra how VERY DISPLEASED this sort of thing makes us.

Back from a short trip to Malmö that was all work-related and blessedly uneventful.

EXCEPT that while waiting for my train at a rather nice Espresso House I got hit on by two younger guys who seemed to think I was a school mistress. Yes, this is the word they used. Apparently we are still living in the nineteenth century.

Also, kinky.
